Event Summary

What services does the Undocumented Student Program (USP) offer? What have been recent trends that we have seen in the undocumented community at UC Berkeley? How have policies changed, especially since 2016 to today, related to undocumented students and DACA? How can we do our part to best support undocumented students on campus?
Come hear from Liliana Iglesias (Program Director of the Undocumented Student Program) and Gina Daly (Director of Federal Relations) as they provide answers to these important questions, and help us gain awareness and think about what the international education community at Berkeley can do to help support undocumented students.

Presenters and Bios:

  • Liliana Iglesias

Liliana Iglesias graduated as a first generation college student from UC Berkeley and earned her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from the University of Southern California. Liliana grew up in Los Angeles county, comes from a mixed status family, and has always held immigration issues close to her heart. In her role as Program Director for USP, she supports USP staff and students, and works with partners on and off campus to coordinate and develop strategies to further meet the needs of undocumented students and their families. Liliana aims to ensure that our students feel a sense of community and are empowered to take full advantage of the resources/opportunities available to them as UC Berkeley students.
  • Gina Daly

Gina currently serves as the Director of Federal Relations for UC Berkeley. In this position, she is the chief federal advocate for the campus, including serving as spokesperson for federal policymakers and administrative officials. She develops and promotes policy and funding priorities for campus leadership, faculty and students. Daly works with the regional Congressional delegation and appropriators to increase federal research funding, student financial aid and prevent budget cuts. She has also served in leadership positions for the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU), most recently as the elected Chair of the Council on Government Affairs for APLU.

Berkeley International Group events are designed for UC Berkeley faculty and staff and are not open to the general public.

The Berkeley International Group (BIG) is composed of UC Berkeley faculty and staff who are invited to meet monthly to collaborate and participate in informal discussions related to the international work we do across UC Berkeley.  During the academic year, the group typically meets once a month, with the host(s) deciding upon the topic, date, time, and location of the meeting. Each meeting is typically hosted by a different unit on campus.

Since 2019, BIG is a recognized Staff Organization Community of Practice, which facilitates opportunities for staff to become more involved in campus life. Joining relevant communities of practice allows staff to continue to develop and broaden their skills, as well as meet people who have similar professional interests.
