Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study

The primary mission of the Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study is to strengthen ongoing research collaborations and foster the development of new research collaborations between faculty at the University of California, Berkeley and a consortium of nine participating Norwegian academic institutions.

Through a partnership with Norwegian universities and an international research council, UC Berkeley receives seed funding to facilitate research collaborations with universities abroad and serves as the administrative hub for these partnerships. UC Berkeley uses this funding to support workshops, mini-conferences, PhD student exchanges, postdoctoral fellow exchanges, exploratory and pilot studies for UC Berkeley researchers. This partnership provides research funding across multiple campus units, meaningful collaborations with universities abroad, enables UC Berkeley faculty to conduct exploratory and cutting-edge research in tandem with leading researchers from top overseas institutions and a research council, and leads to seed funding opportunities for Berkeley researchers.

More information is available on the Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study website.

For UC Berkeley faculty and staff, more detailed information regarding the partnership development process and benefits to UC Berkeley is available here (via Google Drive, CalNet ID required).
