Examples of International Initiatives

The Global Engagement Office has compiled examples of UC Berkeley's innovative international initiatives and partnerships that extend beyond traditional international exchange programs or peer-to-peer research collaborations. These partnerships and programs, developed by colleges, departments, and organized research units across UC Berkeley, are centered around topics of mutual interest to Berkeley and one or more international institutions.

Aligning with UC Berkeley's Guiding Principles for International Engagement, international partnerships expand the reach and influence of Berkeley and the partner institutions, enable students and scholars of all backgrounds and with all manner of expertise to connect with one another, and bring important resources to campus.

UC Berkeley faculty and staff interested in developing international partnerships or programs are encouraged to consult UC Berkeley’s Guidelines for Developing International Activities, or contact the UC Berkeley Global Engagement Office at geo@berkeley.edu

More detailed information about each successful partnership example is included with each summary, including the partnership development process, benefits to the UC Berkeley community, staffing, funding, points of contact, and key reasons for success (via box, CalNet ID required).
